I think it's chicken shit for your bosses to make you fire someone for their reasons. Sounds like any excuse to lessen the payroll.

I had to fire a supervisor for the way that he fired....er, laid off one of his people. He said to the lady "I have good news and bad news. The bad news is your position's been eliminated and therefore you are out of a job. The good news is I saved a bunch of money on car insurance by switching to Gieco"
The lady he let go wasn't upset, she left his office laughing and hugged everyone on her way out, but once word got out and the big bosses heard they lowered the hammer, and made me swing it.
The guy was mortified. He has 3 young kids and just bought a new house. He was actually in tears in my office and convinced that he was fired for his sense of humor....just thinking about it brings back the same "I feel like shit" feelings that I had that day.....
Back to the subject at hand, glad you're still kicking -meg!

And if she was laughing about the way he did it (which I think is good because it lightened the mood and made her cheerful, instead of the normal opposite way around) then some other supervisors should take a hint and try to ease the blow of having to lay someone off.. It puts them in a better spirit and quicker to recover and find another job.. Sometimes I swear.. Dumbass higher ups.

Hello big brother...there's nothing to see here. I'm hard at work....

Taking a small breather after yelling my head off at the last one in the department....
In this situation, I have to applaud the higher ups for it happening.
My review came up, and my immediate manager gave me a top knotch review (which I am very hapy for) and she put in for a decent raise for me. In the process of flushing that out - Her higher ups seemed to have bigger ideas than what I had been able to accomplish. In letting them know the real world situation with how rude it was of them to place goals for me to have accomplished for the last year AFTER I have been revied for that said year, and informing them that I might have been able to do it if it wasn't for:
The people under me only really working 2 hours of the 6 they are in office, but charging 8; and that if I didn't have to spend more time fixing their work then I spent on what I needed to get done.
I am the project leader for what I am doing, and didn't have the power to get rid of people....until they did some investigating and found out what was really going on. I hinted, told, and did everything short of smacking them aside the head with an aluminum bat to get the point across, but their attitude was "well, we don't report to you so we?"......
Well, the shock came a couple of weeks ago when they did put them under me, and let me decide what to do with them. They were told to shape up or there would be consequences - well, the response to that was they went out for a 2 1/2 hour lunch. My response was to pack up their desks while they were out and cancel their card keys to the access door.
What is amazing is that the 3rd of the bunch still hasn't gotten the idea! She isn't goine yet as she is only on my project 50% of the time and the other manager likes her. So they are working to get rid of the manager first and then her.
Hated to do everyone of them, as they had H1-B visas and are now on the short track for deportation if they don't find a job by the 3rd week this month, but hey - not like they didn't have a chance. If they aren't going to work the hours needed to get paid for what they are supposed to do, then ship their ass back and let's find someone who is willing to do the work (no reference should be noted here that I am against an H1-B employee except when they are purposefully abusing the system)
Ahh - well back to it. You all have fun and leave the light on for me
I dont see any wrong..if ppl dont to their jobb tht they get paid for..the you warn them and if that doesnt help..fire them and get others. There are alot of ppl in our countrys that want to work.
Nice to see you back mega
